Getting Started with Code Savanna

From the very beginning we have been deeply inspired by the potential of the youth in disadvantaged communities. When we first piloted the idea for a free computer coding program in Lusaka, Zambia, we were amazed by the talent that exists when opportunity is provided.

Our Journey

At Code Savanna, we believe in the power of technology to transform lives. Our journey began with a simple question: What if we could bring coding education to underserved communities in Africa?

We started small, with just a handful of students and a few laptops. But the enthusiasm and talent we witnessed were overwhelming. Students who had never seen a computer before were writing their first lines of code within weeks.

What We've Learned

Here are some key insights from our experience:

  1. Talent is universal, opportunity is not - We've discovered incredible natural talent in places where educational opportunities are scarce.

  2. Practical skills matter - Teaching practical, in-demand coding skills creates immediate pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.

  3. Community is key - Building a supportive community around learners amplifies their success and creates sustainable progress.
